Insurance & Payment

Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:
Do I have mental health benefits?
What is my deductible and has it been met?
How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
Is approval required from my primary care physician?
I am provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Blue Care Network. Effective 7/1/24, I am a provider with ASR insurance. For those insurances I do not participate, I can provide you with a receipt to submit for reimbursement from your insurance company. In that receipt is the procedure code, diagnosis and date of service for reimbursement. It is the client's responsibility to pay for services at the time the services have been rendered. Also, it is important for clients to understand their mental health benefits as some policies do not reimburse for mental health clinicians.
-
Cash, check, Venmo and all major credit cards accepted for payment.
-
Reduced fee services are available on a limited basis.
-
If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, or have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full session fee for the missed appointment.
I fully understand and celebrate that families come in a wide variety of configurations. When the term “parent” is used on this site, legal guardians and caretakers please know that I am speaking to you as well. All mentions of children refer to those under 18 years of age, including teenagers.
"For over a year I spun in circles looking for help for my daughter. After being directed to Kelly, I was finally able to get a diagnosis and a road for treatment. Kelly Griffin is sensitive, honest, down to earth and passionate about helping children and families."

Initial Child Therapy Session
60 min for $190 | in-person only | one-time appointment
The goal of this initial session is getting to know your child and family, as well as any of the challenges and difficulties you are facing that bring you into the counseling process. You can see first-hand how I approach the counseling process and get a rough outline of what to expect moving forward.
-
I will gather background information and establish boundaries and expectations of the counseling process. Because of this, caregivers must accompany their minor children to this initial session.
While virtual counseling sessions are sometimes scheduled as necessary, this initial session will be in-person at our office.
We will also discuss the schedule for any future sessions, including how frequent sessions will be (i.e., once every week, once every other week, etc.), whether future sessions will be in-person or virtual, and the degree to which parents can expect to be involved in each counseling session.
You’ll receive an email with any forms and policies that need to be completed prior to this initial session.
Child Therapy Session
60 min for $170 or 45 min for $130
in-person only (virtual if sick) | regularly-occurring appointment
During regularly occurring therapy sessions, I will talk with children and caregivers about their concerns and what they have experienced since the previous session. We’ll discuss any new goals or changes in approach and I will answer any questions you or your child have.
-
Any least one caregiver should be present during each counseling session. Occasionally, an exception will be made, but as a general rule, plan to attend each session and actively participate with your child.
In each session I aim to get input and feedback from caregivers, discuss relevant strategies, and to check in on how the child is progressing with counseling goals.
Counseling sessions are generally scheduled for 60 minutes, but under certain circumstances, I may recommend the switch to 45 minute sessions if I feel that is more appropriate for the child. I will discuss with caregivers prior to making any changes in the session logistics.
Virtual sessions are available for regularly scheduled sessions, but not for the initial session.
Family Therapy Session
60 min for $170
in-person or virtual (established patients only) | regularly-occurring appointment
Family group therapy consists of 2 or more individuals of any age, engaging with myself, the therapist, to assess and analyze current social and familial dynamics. Examples of this include parent sessions with more than one child or parent, adult sibling sessions, parent and adult children groups, etc.
-
If the family group includes minors, it is desirable for at least one parent to be present at each counseling session.
I will normally set aside a portion of each 60 minute session to get input and feedback from parents, discuss relevant parental strategies, and check in on how things are progressing with counseling goals.
Counseling sessions are generally scheduled for 60 minutes. Under certain circumstances, however, I may decide that 45 minute sessions are more appropriate. I will discuss with the group any changes in the length of time for each session and why this change may be most beneficial.
These sessions can take on a variety of formats, and during the initial session, we will determine which would be a good place to start, and re-evaluate from there if needed.
"Working with Kelly was a turning point for me. She not only helped identify my ADHD, but guided me through the emotional and practical challenges that came with it. Her support was compassionate, insightful, and genuinely life-changing. I finally felt understood and equipped to move forward with confidence."

“I've had the pleasure of working alongside and supervising Kelly Griffin for over 15 years. Kelly is a knowledgeable and an energetic clinician who brings genuine warmth and dedication to her work. She has a remarkable ability to form caring, trusting connections with her young clients and to adults as well, which speaks to both her clinical skill and her compassionate nature. Any family or individual would be fortunate to have her support on their mental health journey. ”

We’re Maple and Willow
These girls are a regular part of my practice and I absolutely love seeing the ways in which they bond with children and families. I couldn’t be prouder of them both and the healing effect they have on our community.
Both are Bunji (an Aboriginal term for companion) Australian Labradoodles from the phenomenal West Michigan breeder, Bunjidoodles. This family-owned breeder is known for their calm-tempered, well-socialized dogs, making these emotionally in-tuned companion dogs perfect for therapy work.
-
In November 2021, Willow joined my practice. She is now a certified therapy dog and has earned her Canine and Urban Good Citizen and various trick certifications. We are both members of West Michigan Therapy Dogs and volunteer with Emmanuel Hospice to provide companionship and emotional relief to patients in life’s final stages.
Willow is a sweet and gentle dog, excellent at providing comfort to those around her. Her calm temperament and extensive training make her uniquely equipped to comfort and support individuals in therapy settings.
-
Maple joined our family In October 2022, at 8 months old. She is one of the most loving, goofy dogs you’ll ever meet. Her affectionate nature allows her to be exceptionally highly attuned to humans.
Maple has her Canine Good Citizen certification and will begin therapy dog training in summer 2025 after she delivers her third litter of puppies. Once she earns her therapy dog certification, she will join Kelly and Willow in Emmanuel Hospice.
Not a dog person?
With or without my dogs, my goal is to provide a comfortable and supportive atmosphere where kids and families can heal, grow, and connect. One or both dogs are routinely in the office most days and are a part of the counseling environment. If you have any questions or concerns about how your child may react to our therapy dogs, please contact me before your initial meeting to discuss.
